I got the new Tassimo. Not for home, but for the office. The machine I have at home is showing its age, but it's holding up just fine. The new one has a smaller footprint and is much much quieter and as such is suitable for use at the office. I could not bring the old one in because it's simply too loud.
The new one is also better used whilst sitting in front of it (e.g. at a desk in an office). It's so quiet you have to visually notice that it has flipped to manual mode (where you can add a bit more to each drink and make it milder). On the old Braun version (the manufacturer of the new one is Bosch), the motor is so loud I can tell from the next room that my coffee is done and if I want the manual mode I need to walk over to the machine. No such notification on the new one.
It took me a long time to get to the point where I've decided to control my beverage situation at work. The company provides coffee, but it's hardly palatable and my only other option is to march upstairs to the cafeteria (when it's open) to purchase a full sized Starbucks or Green Mountain for $1.50+. Of course I could just cut out the caffeine altogether, but that's not likely. Yes, the Tassimo is a bit of money up front, but at $0.49 a cup for the Starbucks T-disc, it's a bargain in the long run.
Doesn't work so well if you have 12 people wanting coffee, but for one offs it's perfect. I used to brew a pot of coffee in the morning, drink two cups and then toss the rest.
I can also make tea, hot chocolate, and the occasional latte should I so choose. So I think it's a win-win. I've been outrageously happy with the one I have at home and it's one of the few small kitchen appliances that I've been overwhelmingly satisfied with. Highly recommended.
