At the drive-in with my sister! We're seeing the new Batman movie...

Holy crap.  Totally crazy thunderstorms going on right now.   The thunder is shaking the house and the lightning is just as bright as the sun.

Hopefully there is no loss of power this evening - I am in the middle of organizing the place for the arrival of my sister tomorrow (she is driving cross country).   It's not so much cleaning as it is moving boxes and assembling the 2nd bedroom for someone to actually sleep in there - but I'm also doing laundry and such.   Having the power go out in the middle of a load of laundry is not a great thing, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Sprout and Rocco still feel the need to bark at the thunder, so hopefully this big red cell passes before bedtime - otherwise it's going to be a long night!

I was able to download a utility for iPhone (one of many free apps on iTunes) called Mocha VNC Lite.   VNC stands for virtual network computing - and is traditionally used to access the desktop of a remote machine from another location. 

This app allows me to "dial in" to my Mac back home.  I can literally see my desktop - files and all.   It took a little port mapping (I use a router) and a DNS re-route (using DynDNS' free service - it maps your IP address to a DNS address).   All in all, it was a relatively simple setup and I am tickled pink that I can just call up my home computer at any time.

I think it's the most functional app for iPhone so far - and it's free!

I found the horizontal black leather case I have been looking all over for at Amazon - and it's 91% off.   That's a benefit of having Apple release the new iPhone - most of the accessories for the original version are deeply discounted.   I took a trip to the Apple store today and they had three cases to speak of - everything else was for the iPhone 3G. 

So I came back and checked online it turned out to be a good thing that I did!  With shipping this thing cost me $5!

I rarely wear my phone at my waist but there have definitely been times at the office where having a suitable case would have been helpful (e.g. when I am carrying my laptop and papers from meeting to meeting and am just out of hands).  

Vertical cases don't work on most female forms (including mine) so having one that is situated horizontally will be a big help.

The update is fully up and running, and I've been able to get my work email pushed to my phone for the first time ever!
