I take my dogs on a walk every morning. This morning, I opted to exit out of the riverside of my apartment building (an old cotton mill) and nearly stumbled over a guy sitting on the steps - in his pajamas - smoking. At 6:30am. Did I mention he was in his pajamas?
I am baffled. I don't understand why people smoke, but the sight of this guy barely awake and puffing away totally boggles me.
I can't think of a more unappealing way start the morning. My walk, which comes with plenty of fresh air, did wonders.

Just getting around to posting this. As many people know, I take a lot of pictures of food (seems to run in the family!). It's really a wonder that I am not 300lbs. Anyway, I often remember my experiences in a place by the associated food so here is a compilation of all of the pictures I have in my collection. Most of them were taken via iPhone during my various travels around the country and world. The pictures are from the following states and countries, in no particular order:
• Maryland • California • District of Columbia • Virginia • Singapore • Australia • England • Ireland • Alabama • Rhode Island • Massachusetts • Vermont • Arizona • Nevada • Florida • New York • New Jersey • Connecticut • Pennsylvania •

Trader Joe’s Filet of Sole with Rich Butter Beans & Seasoned Fresh Spinach Leaves is 190 calories of splendid goodness! I think I have a new favorite TJ’s item. Probably a good thing that I found this over my old favorite, the calorie-intensive Gnocchi al Gorgonzola.

I am stuck at 2. Hoping beyond hope that I can eek out a 3rd in the next week or so. And to think that one year in elementary school I was denied the Presidential Fitness Challenge patch because I couldn't do one. That was the first and last time thathappened. The more of these I can squeak out in good form, the better. If only for bragging rights.
Pretty sure it'll help me build some righteous upper body strength, too.

Coconut water is an outstanding beverage. While I cannot find whole young coconut drinks similar to those I had in Singapore, this is a close second!

We have some weather approaching Rhode Island. Maybe you've heard.
Hurricane Earl is scheduled to blow through here tomorrow, intensifying later in the day. I, as usual, am not prepared. The storm is going to drop rain and 30-40mph winds around here, which probably means I'll lose power.
During my 30 years on the planet, I KNOW I have purchased a flashlight. Chances are it's in the three boxes I have not yet unpacked from my latest move. Of course.
Not such a big deal for me or the dogs, but the three birds can't be in the dark overnight. They'll have night frights (a real thing - I had one kill a cockatiel of mine a few years ago). So, off to the store I go hoping the general population hasn't beat me to it.

A short clip I took of the Jul 31 Waterfire lighting in Providence, RI.

Went to WaterFire last night in Providence. It was awesome, per usual. My sister drove up from New Haven and we had dinner at the Melting Pot. The Melting Pot is a fondue place, which was great because neither one of us was super hungry - so we just kind of ordered as we went. Cheese, regular fondue, and then dark chocolate with Oreos for the dessert fondue.
Waterfire is this excellent public art display of fire and water and people and night sky. Downcity Providence turns into a giant bonfire complete with gondolas and music and 100 individual fires burning in the rivers. It's an outstanding thing to experience, should you ever get the chance to be in town during one of the full lightings.
Here are a few pictures. The first involves the excellent bottled iced tea I had at the Melting Pot. It was so good I had to take a picture to remember it. The rest are, in order, the WaterFire display from a high vantage point; the gondola; a woman singing to the music; the fire chandelier lit beneath the Exchange St bridge.

My dogs, Sprout and Rocco, will come along for the ride.

Google has finally killed off Wave. I could sense this was coming. After months of having an active account, I haven't used it. At initial offering it was confusing and cluttered and - like the iPad - I couldn't find a place for it in my already crowded tech repertoire. The concept sounded promising, but I don't think the general public is ready for Google to try and change the way they communicate. Google's allure is its simplicity - pull up the search engine and there's one text field with a button. You can't go wrong. Juxtapose that with the Wave and whoa nellie.
You can read all about the death of the Wave @ Computerworld.

Took a long walk with the dogs this morning. They're walked each morning, but sometimes we go a little further and today was evidence of that. Along the stroll I was treated to a number of wildlife. There's a Great Blue heron that sits along the river sometimes. I see her every week or so and today she was there on full display. There were also many ducks in the river, one of which had a brood of about a dozen little ducklings following it (and none were ugly!).
Love it when I can really get a sense of nature in the mornings when I'm out with the dogs.
Here's a pic of Stella, the Great Blue heron.

After an 18+ month hiatus I am back on the blog. I've decided that there is indeed a need for my blog space as not everyone is on Facebook and certainly not all of my thoughts and musings need be posted there. So stay tuned for more updates!
